Garelton East Lodge is a ruinous historic building associated with the adjacent Garleton Castle ruins which date back to the 16th century. It is understood that the castle, including the lodge are a scheduled monument and that the lodge is also a listed building. East Lodge is a stone built dwelling house and the first floor is supported on stone vaulting above the ground floor (semi-cellars at present because of high external ground level). The tiled timber roof and the timber second floor have largely collapsed leaving the building in a dangerous condition. Work within this project includes consolidation of exposed building wall head, repair of areas of exposed structure, temporary consolidation and shoring of internal walls and construction of a timber framed pitched roof.
